Emerson Hospital Named #14 on Top 100 Women-Led Organizations in State

11/2/2017

Emerson Hospital’s president and CEO, Christine Schuster, has been named to The Commonwealth Institute’s 2017 list of Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, coming in at #14.  The results were published in the October 29, 2017 issue of the Boston Globe Magazine and are also available online.

In addition to being named to the list, Emerson Hospital was featured as an innovative organization in the opening remarks of the awards event at the Intercontinental Hotel Boston which took place on October 27.  Elizabeth L. Hailer, Executive Director of The Commonwealth Institute, spoke to the more than 700 guests about Emerson’s work to educate people in the community about the opioid crisis and make parents aware of where teens commonly hide opioids. This was based on Emerson Hospital’s Opioid Crisis Community Conversations that were held in Concord and Westford.

“This honor is a testament to Ms. Schuster’s leadership and focus on innovation,” said Elizabeth Hailer of The Commonwealth Institute.  “Emerson Hospital has become a community hospital of choice for more than 300,000 residents and has remained financially strong during these challenging times in health care.  With Christine’s leadership, the hospital’s future remains bright.”

“I am humbled to be named to the list of the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses,” said Christine Schuster. “This is a true reflection of the commitment, hard work and expertise our teams have in providing the very best care to our patients and their families. Innovation is essential in order to remain a hospital of choice and we are constantly looking for ways we can enhance our patients’ experiences with Emerson and deliver the best health care possible.”

Organizations honored on the list were selected based on revenue and other variables, including the number of full-time employees in Massachusetts, workplace and management diversity, and innovative programs.  This is the 17th year that The Commonwealth Institute, a local nonprofit that supports female business leaders, has created the list, and the fifth year that the Boston Globe Magazine partnered with the group. It is the first year that Emerson Hospital was named to the list.
