People with certain chronic conditions can find several classes catering to their specific needs. Whether you seek relief from pain, want to build strength and flexibility, or are working to regain your health, the Steinberg Wellness Center for Mind and Body has a class for you.

Parkinson’s disease
It is well established that exercise has a role to play in controlling the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Fitness for Parkinson’s includes stretching, core strengthening and balance training and combines concepts from LSVT BIG, boxing and yoga. Parkinson’s Movement uses dance techniques to improve balance, flexibility, walking, movement range and rhythm.

Strength, Balance & Conditioning for Seniors
This class focuses on conditioning the core and improving balance by learning how to move the body in a healthy way that strengthens, avoids injury and reinforces proper movement. It combines a variety of movement forms, such as yoga, Pilates, dance stretch, martial arts and breath work to help students achieve overall health and wellness and improved mobility.

Cancer survivors
There are several tai chi and qigong classes. Tai chi, an ancient Chinese martial art, can help with pain relief, posture, mood, concentration and energy. Qigong integrates gentle physical postures and breathing techniques to decrease anxiety and fatigue, enhance breathing and improve balance.
