Senior Leadership

Ms. Schuster has over 25 years of health care experience. Prior to joining Emerson in 2005, she served as president and CEO of Quincy Medical Center and previously Athol Memorial Hospital. She also served as chief operating officer of the Extended Care Division of Tenet Saint Vincent Healthcare System in Worcester and director of critical care at New England Deaconess Hospital. Early in her career, she was a healthcare consultant with Coopers & Lybrand. Ms. Schuster received her master’s in business administration, with honors, from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a bachelor of science in nursing from Boston University. Ms. Schuster was appointed by Governor Romney and served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Health Education and Financing Authority where she was elected Chairman of the Board. She currently serves as Chairman of Power Options, the leading energy buying consortium in Massachusetts as well as a Board Member of the Massachusetts Council of Community Hospitals and a Corporator for Middlesex Bank. In 2014, Ms. Schuster was named to the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board for the New England region. In 2007, she was named to Governor Patrick’s transition team, serving on the Health Care Taskforce. She has also served on the Voluntary Hospitals of America, Northeast Board and the Massachusetts Hospital Association Board, where she chaired the Clinical Issues Advisory Council and the Leadership Education Committee. She currently serves on the MHA Standing Committee on Finance. Ms. Schuster is also engaged in civic affairs and has served on the Board of the Concord Chamber of Commerce and the Concord Economic Council. In 2014, Ms. Schuster received the American Hospital Association Most Valuable PAC Player Award for her leadership in encouraging participation in advocacy to benefit hospitals and patients. Also in 2014, Becker's Hospital Review named her as one of “130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.” In 2011, Ms. Schuster received the Business person of the Year Award from the Concord Chamber of Commerce as well the “Prescription for Excellence Award” from the MA Medical Health Law Report. She also received the 2009 American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion Award and the 2008 Maynard Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award. She was also recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine and Witt Kieffer Associates as one of their “Up and Comer” Award recipients.

Mr. Wilhelm is responsible for information systems and physician practice management. Most recently, Mr. Wilhelm served Northeast Health System as executive vice president. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Merrimack College and his master's in business administration from Babson College. He is a member of the Hospital Financial Management Association and other professional financial organizations.

Mr. Hachey is responsible for the oversight of all of Emerson’s financial operations. Previously, Mr. Hachey served as the chief financial officer of Mercy Health System of Maine in Portland, and before that, he was the chief operating officer for Miles Health Care, a subsidiary of MaineHealth. He holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Hachey serves on the adjunct faculty of the University of Massachusetts – Lowell, the board of Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce and the Standing Committee on Finance of the Massachusetts Hospital Association.

Ms. Welsh is responsible for nursing services, pharmacy, home care, the anticoagulation clinic, outpatient psychiatry, transitional care unit, the Center for Weight Loss, and the Mass General Cancer Center at Emerson Hospital - Bethke. She is a health care executive with more than 27 years of experience. Prior to joining Emerson, she worked at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston as the senior director of patient care services, where she was responsible for administrative and clinical activities for medical-surgical, critical care, cardiac catheterization lab, coumadin clinic, infusion therapy, and the development of clinical pathways. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in management, graduating with academic excellence from Emmanuel College in Boston. She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) for Massachusetts. She is on the faculty for the ONL Leadership Academy.

Ms. Gallery develops programs that ensure the continued growth of hospital services. She leads the organization’s strategic planning and business development efforts, directs the hospital’s marketing strategy and oversees physician recruitment and relations. She has been with Emerson since 1996. Previously, she was director of physician network development at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton. Ms. Gallery received a bachelor of arts in political science from the College of the Holy Cross and a J.D. cum laude from Suffolk University Law School. She is a member of the Massachusetts Bar. Ms. Gallery is president-elect of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development. In 2012, she was named Strategist of the Year by the New England Society for Healthcare Strategy.

Mr. Stastny provides leadership for key operational departments including the Center for Sports Rehabilitation, lab and imaging services, support services, facilities, construction/project management and the laboratory and imaging services. In addition, Mr. Stastny leads the human resources functions at Emerson including employee recruitment and retention, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training, and organizational development. Mr. Stastny has a broad range of experience in human resources in both hospital settings and physician practices. Mr. Stastny earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in healthcare administration from Ohio University. Mr. Stastny represents Emerson on the Concord Business Partnership.

Mr. Kussin develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive program that maximizes philanthropic support for all of Emerson’s charitable components and affiliates. In addition, he provides strategic oversight and direction for the Emerson Health Care Foundation, the hospital’s fundraising arm. Guided by a volunteer board, the Emerson Health Care Foundation raises millions of dollars annually for facility enhancements, technology investments and clinical advancement through special appeals, fundraising campaigns, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary and the support of Corporators who serve as ambassadors for the hospital in their local communities. Previously, Mr. Kussin served as the director of development at Nashoba Brooks School in Concord and as the director of development at Suffolk University in Boston. He holds a bachelor of science in business administration and marketing management from the University of Vermont. Mr. Kussin is a member of the Concord Rotary.

Ms. Battaglini works with the hospital's Board of Directors to develop the structures, processes and policies that enhance the board's ability to lead the organization effectively. She also leads special project assignments. She has been a senior vice president in health care strategic planning for over 25 years, working at multi-hospital systems in the Boston area at Hallmark Health and at United Health Services in Binghamton, NY. She has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Harpur College in Binghamton and a master’s degree in accounting from Binghamton University.
