Jim Rand of Acton Receives Outstanding Volunteer Award at Emerson Hospital

Since 2001, Emerson's Volunteer of the Year award winner, Jim Rand has spent nearly all  of his Thursdays volunteering at the hospital. His role is unique because he is the only volunteer at the hospital who does what he does. Jim uses his vast knowledge working for decades at Raytheon as an electronic systems engineer to help keep technology running smoothly throughout the hospital. 
 

Local Resident Becomes First in State to Be Certified in Dance for Parkinson’s Disease

Susanne Liebich, instructor with The Steinberg Wellness Center at Emerson Hospital, is the first person in Massachusetts to earn a Certification in Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (PD®). Dance for PD classes at the Steinberg Wellness Center invite those with PD and caregivers to experience the benefits and joys of dance while helping to enhance balance, cognition, mobility, depression and physical confidence. 

Gloria Clough Elected Chair of Emerson Hospital’s Board

Emerson Hospital’s Board of Directors recently elected Gloria Clough as its Chair, effective immediately. She succeeds outgoing Chair Paul Birch who remains active on Emerson’s Board and various health system committees. Ms. Clough works closely with Emerson’s CEO, Christine Schuster, to establish the overall vision and goals of the Emerson Health System. 

Cathy Celli, Surgical Center Resource Nurse Manager, Honored with Compassionate Caregiver Award at Emerson Hospital

At Emerson Hospital’s annual Compassionate Caregiver Award event held recently, Cathy Celli, RN, Resource Nurse Manager for the Clough Surgical Center, was honored for her dedication to excellence with patients and their families. Nominated by her colleagues, Cathy was chosen as the recipient of this year’s Terry Croteau Compassionate Care Award, the highest honor at Emerson for patient care. 

Emerson Hospital Awarded Highest Grade for Patient Safety

Emerson Hospital has again been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group. Emerson has now earned thirteen consecutive As for Safety since 2013. The results are available to the public and can be used to make an informed decision as to where people choose to receive hospital care for themselves or family members. 

Independent Massachusetts Hospital Systems Launch Value Alliance

Emerson Hospital is part of a new coalition of ten independent Massachusetts health systems, including 14 community hospitals, that have formed the Massachusetts Value Alliance (MVA) to enhance their efforts in delivering high quality, patient-centered and cost-effective care to their communities. 

Massachusetts Health Policy Commission Appoints Emerson Hospital’s President and CEO to Advisory Council

The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission (HPC) announced the members appointed for the 2019-2020 term of the HPC Advisory Council. Christine Schuster, RN, MBA, President and CEO of Emerson Hospital and longtime Sudbury resident, has been appointed as a new member. The Advisory Council provides an opportunity for open dialogue and engagement among a diverse group of health care industry stakeholders and policymakers and, in turn, helps inform the work of the HPC.

As part of its focus on providing high-quality healthcare to the community, which includes creative arts to inspire wellness, Emerson Medical at Sudbury is continuing its Art Exhibit series.  The latest exhibit features colorful screen prints and cut paper collage by Jean Carter, a Concord resident and artist.
