Women checking in at Emerson Hospital

Visiting Hours & Parking

The health and safety of our patients, visitors, employees, and our communities remains our top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, certain visitor restrictions have been implemented in line with guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Please refer to our visitor policy for up-to-date guidelines.

If you’d like to talk by phone with someone who’s an inpatient here, simply call 978-369-1400 and we’ll connect you.

Approved visitors will be screened for symptoms of, or known exposure to, COVID-19 prior to entering the facility per Emerson’s Screening Policy.

  • Visitors will be asked to enter through the main entrance between the hours of 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Visitors entering the main hospital after 8 p.m. must enter through the emergency department entrance.
  • The Clough Surgical and Birthing Center entrance is open for obstetrics and surgical patients from 5 a.m. –7 p.m.

Tobacco-free policy

When you visit, please know that Emerson Hospital is a completely smoke- and tobacco-free campus. This policy prohibits tobacco use — including chewing tobacco — in all areas of the campus, including inside vehicles parked on Emerson property. By going tobacco-free, we’re signaling our belief in the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Parking

Parking is available in the garage near the hospital’s main entrance and in the lower lots adjacent to Route 2.

Parking Rates
0–½ hour: Free
½–1 hour: $5
1–2 hours: $7
2–3 hours: $8
3– 8 hours: $9
Maximum charge per day is $10

If you will be visiting the hospital often, you may purchase 14 parking passes in advance for $30.

If you have a handicapped plate or placard, you may utilize our valet parking, which is complimentary to you, or one of the many close spaces with a handicap parking sign.

If you have parking questions or want to purchase passes, please contact the garage office at 978-287-3009 or visit the office, which is located on the first floor of the garage.

Paying for parking

Please pay for your parking before returning to your car. Payment kiosks are located in the hospital’s main entrance, as well as in the John Cuming Building and Clough Surgical Center lobbies.

The payment kiosks accept cash, credit and debit cards (please note, however, that cash is not accepted in the John Cuming Building or Clough Surgical kiosks). Payment may also be made with a credit or debit card at the exit gates. There are no attendants at the exit gates.

Valet parking

For your convenience, valet parking is available in front of the hospital main entrance and the John Cuming Building. The traffic circle in front of the main entrance is for active drop-off and pick-up of patients only, and vehicles are no longer allowed to park in that circle.

The valet service operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is a flat rate of $5. People with a disability or a handicap plate or placard may valet park at no charge.

If you are visiting a department that offers parking validation, please note that validation does not cover valet services in either location. It only applies to parking in the garage or patient parking lots.

If you use valet parking and stay past 6 p.m., please call 978-580-1030, or push the silver assistance button on the parking kiosk located in either lobby.

Dropping off and picking up patients

  • If you are dropping off a patient for day surgery, there’s a dedicated entrance in the Clough Surgical Center lot, which is across from the parking garage
  • If you are dropping off a patient for another test in the hospital, you may do so at the main entrance
  • If a patient is going to the John Cuming Building, there’s a separate drop-off area directly outside the John Cuming Building entrance
  • If you are picking up a patient, the first 30 minutes of parking in the garage or patient lot is free

Finding your way around the hospital

The main entrance near the parking garage is considered the hospital’s second floor, which is actually at street level when you enter the building. The North Bridge Café and Gift Shop are on this level.

Patient units are located on the third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the hospital.

On level three, a central corridor connects the three wings (Wheeler, West and North) to the John Cuming Building. Medical records and administrative offices are also located on level three. Elevators are located in the North and Wheeler wings.

For your convenience, you can download a hospital campus map or just ask one of the many volunteers or employees if you need help finding a department while you are at the hospital.
