Women checking in at Emerson Hospital

Visiting Hours & Parking

The health and safety of our patients, visitors, employees, and our communities remains our top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, certain visitor restrictions have been implemented in line with guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Please refer to our visitor policy for up-to-date guidelines.

If you’d like to talk by phone with someone who’s an inpatient here, simply call 978-369-1400 and we’ll connect you.

Approved visitors will be screened for symptoms of, or known exposure to, COVID-19 prior to entering the facility.

Tobacco-free policy

When you visit, please know that Emerson Hospital is a completely smoke- and tobacco-free campus. This policy prohibits tobacco use — including chewing tobacco — in all areas of the campus, including inside vehicles parked on Emerson property. By going tobacco-free, we’re signaling our belief in the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Parking

Parking is available in the garage near the hospital’s main entrance and in the lower lots adjacent to route 2.

  • 0–½ hour: Free
  • ½–1 hour: $5
  • 1–2 hours: $7
  • 2–3 hours: $8
  • 3– 8 hours: $9
  • More than 8 hours: $20 (Maximum charge per day)

If you have a handicapped plate or placard please use one of the many close spaces with a handicap parking sign. Currently, valet parking has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are visiting  an office in the John Cuming Building that offers parking validation, please park in the lower lot adjacent to route 2. Garage parking is not validated. If you have parking questions, please contact the garage office at 978-287-3009 or visit the office, which is located on the first floor of the garage.

Paying for parking

Please pay for your parking before returning to your car. Payment kiosks are located in the hospital’s main entrance, parking garage elevator entrance, and emergency department entrance, as well as in the John Cuming Building and Clough Surgical & Birthing Center lobbies.

The payment kiosks accept cash, credit and debit cards (please note, however, that cash is not accepted in the John Cuming Building or Clough Surgical kiosks). Payment may also be made with a credit or debit card at the exit gates. There are no attendants at the exit gates.

Dropping off and picking up patients

  • If you are dropping off a patient for day surgery, there’s a dedicated entrance in the Clough Surgical Center lot, which is across from the parking garage.
  • If you are dropping off a patient for another test in the hospital, you may do so at the main entrance.
  • If a patient is going to the John Cuming Building, there’s a separate drop-off area directly outside the John Cuming Building entrance.
  • If you are picking up a patient, the first 30 minutes of parking in the garage or patient lot is free.

Finding your way around the hospital

The main entrance near the parking garage is considered the hospital’s second floor, which is actually at street level when you enter the building. The North Bridge Café and gift shop are on this level.

Patient units are located on the third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the hospital.

On level three, a central corridor connects the three wings (Wheeler, West and North) to the John Cuming Building. Medical records and administrative offices are also located on level three. Elevators are located in the North and Wheeler wings.

For your convenience, you can download a hospital campus map or just ask one of the many volunteers or employees if you need help finding a department while you are at the hospital.
