A healthy body starts with a healthful diet. Emerson Hospital offers nutritional counseling for a variety of health concerns. In addition, we also provide educational opportunities to the community and articles for further reading on topics related to diet and nutrition.

Wellness Webinars From the Auxiliary

In line with their commitment to provide educational events for the community, the Auxiliary of Emerson Hospital has hosted a series of wellness events focused on healthy eating. The first virtual panel discussion, Fall into Wellness: Eating with the Season in Mind, featured three panelists — an Emerson primary care physician, a licensed dietician and a local chef. Sharing tips and recipes, each panelist discussed approaches to support your immune system through the fall and winter with diet and other modalities. The event was moderated by Kathryn Lorusso, a nutritional therapy practitioner and movement therapist.

In early 2021, the Auxiliary hosted a second virtual event in their Wellness series. Fresh Start: Starting 2021 with Healthy Habits included suggestions for healthy snacks, comfort foods, and lifestyle changes. In addition, we also explored ways to stay active and exercise at home during the winter months. Moderated by Kathryn Lorusso, a nutritional therapy practitioner and movement therapist, other panelists included Julia Elliott, RD, LDN, Emerson Hospital cardiac rehab clinical dietitian; Amy Noordzij, MEd, culinary instructor at The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden and founder of Love, Soup; and Molly Deisroth-Kim, clinical exercise specialist.

In April 2021, we had another successful webinar in our Wellness series. A Spring in Your Step discussed clean eating and forest bathing. There were suggestions for healthy meals, portable snacks, and nature therapy. The webinar featured Julia Elliott, RD, LDN, Emerson Hospital cardiac rehab clinical dietitian; Amy Noordzij, MEd, culinary instructor at The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden and founder of Love Soup; and Nadine Mazzola, certified forest therapy guide and instructor, author, and founder of New England Nature and Forest Therapy Consulting; and was moderated by Kathryn Lorusso, MA, NTP, nutritional therapy practitioner.

The webinar featured Julia Elliott, RD, LDN, Emerson Hospital cardiac rehab clinical dietitian, and her daughter; Amy Noordzij, MEd, culinary instructor at The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, and her daughter; and Susanne Liebich, MBA certified instructor at the Steinberg Wellness Center for Mind and Body.
